Personal Mastery: Personal mastery is an ongoing, internal growth process that includes setting goals, analyzing strengths, and making good choices that lead to the achievement of your goals. It means being in control of your own internal thought processes and emotions.

  • Pro tip: Learn to respond rather than react. Responding to a situation is done with intention and awareness.  Reacting is a result of emotion and done without thought or reason.

  • Exercises to strengthen personal mastery skills:

    • Identify your values and set a vision for your life, including your career. This allows you to live with purpose and provides a map for your life.

    • Practice observing your mood. When you feel yourself responding negatively to outside stimuli, take a step back, and reset your mood.

    • Proactively motivate yourself when you feel lacking in energy. Regularly take on tasks that will fill you with a sense of accomplishment.

  • Journaling Activity:

    • Think and write about the following questions:

      • When do I find myself the most satisfied and fulfilled?
What am I doing during those times?
What is the purpose of those activities?
What are some common threads that come up?

      • Use the information gained from answering the questions to set your personal vision.

  • A good first step:

    • Take active steps to ensure you have positive morning experiences. Develop a consistent morning routine and stick to it. The morning experience will set the tone for the day. Be certain you are setting yourself up for success!
